I love doing a maternity shoot.  It brings out the best of what photography is all about…capturing those days that are  sacred and will never be repeated in the same way…weddings, pregnancies, babies.  I think it’s why we love to photograph sunrises and sunsets too.

Well I’m still on my little new year organizing streak..it’s probably being helped along by the Arctic climate outside.  The more time I spend inside these four walls the more I need functional and pretty around here.  I’m a big fan of EXPEDIT units from IKEA.  They’re affordable, absolutely fit the bill for functional and pretty storage, and can be styled to suit pretty much any space.

Happy Friday everyone.    This photo is not technically from this week but from the week before.  If you are in Southern Ontario you may remember this insane fog that had settled overnight.  I was really excited  and set out early in the morning intending to take some cool photos.

Perfect Chocolate Cake from Scratch

So we had a birthday in the family last weekend.  And we all make a big effort to make the day special for the birthday person.  Although parties and outings may not happen till another day, it’s nice to be spoiled on your special day, right?  And around here nothing says “spoiled”  like having cake for dessert.

IKEA Spice Racks Upcycled for Craft Storage | personallyandrea.com
So in the lifelong attempt to keep craft supplies organized, I attempted a little project on the weekend and here’s how it turned out.

These spice racks were part of a stash of supplies I picked up during the Christmas holidays.  I was happy to find them since they are often out of stock.  As things are.  You don’t have to browse the internet for long to find that these spice racks are popular for book display, especially for kids.  But I was looking to add to my craft storage space and it seemed these would do the trick.

Favourite Brunch Menu Plus Recipes

Tuesday, January 14, 2014 by

OK guys here it is…finally…our brunch menu from Christmas Day plus the recipes to go with it.

Overnight Brunch Casserole (I know…so descriptive!), muffins, fruit, juice, and coffee/tea.  It’s a basic combination that works for most brunch occasions and requires minimal work in the kitchen the morning of.  Since the whole point of brunch is that you want to be able to sleep in, right?

Photo Finish 2: Looking For A Snack

Friday, January 10, 2014 by
Happy Friday, friends!  Did we all survive the first Real week of the New Year?  I hope it was comfortable enough to get back into routines.  Maybe you even had renewed energy and enthusiasm.  Good for you if you did!   Around here we are back to the familiar, but I remain feeling pretty neutral about it.  I’m not a morning person so that part gets a thumbs-down from me.  So I was glad to go to my happy place which is Camera In Hand.  And decided to do a photo of something that’s familiar and routine in our home, and probably in yours too.

Road Tripping: Montreal in Winter

Saturday, January 4, 2014 by
The stereotypes are true.  It’s cold in Montreal in the winter.  Nevertheless we were looking for a few-day, road-trippable getaway and this is where we went.  It was just in the wake of our epic ice storm, so long hours of driving at least had this fairy-tale, coated-in-ice scenery to enjoy along the way.

Photo Finish 1: Macarons

Well Happy New Year, sweet friends!  I hope you are excited about the possibilities that await you this year, and that you have some awesomeness planned for your blank slates.  Personally, I am super-excited about above zero temperatures, which I’m sure will be happening at some point in the year.  Once my toes unfreeze, I may get into some resolutions and goals.  But for now I will just huddle by the fire under a blanket with my laptop and do something fabulous for all of you.  My one new thing I’ve decided to do this year.  Verging on a resolution even.
