Milk baths are recorded to date back as far as the days of Cleopatra as a way to soften and moisturize the skin.  Today milk treatments for the skin may be available at your favourite spas, but you can make a homemade milk bath in minutes with ingredients right from your pantry.  In this recipe I’ve added orange essential oil to make an orange cream milk bath.  Besides the loveliness of having a scented bath, there are many benefits derived from orange essential oil which you can read about here.

Supplies Needed:

milk bath mix (recipe below)
glass jars
round kraft labels
alphabet stamps
black inkpad
bakery twine

Make a large batch and divide it up into 4 oz (125mL) jars.  With a  simple hand-stamped label on the lid and some bakery twine wrapped around the jar, it makes a pretty and practical gift.  Don’t forget to make enough so you can keep some for yourself.  You’re going to want a good long soak in a hot tub after all this hard work.

Orange Cream Milk Bath Recipe:

Mix the ingredients in a large bowl in the following proportions:

1 cup powdered milk
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup cornstarch
11-12 drops orange essential oil

Add about a 3/4 cup to the tub under running water for a soothing and sweet smelling soak.
